About this Film

PennGSE’s Commitment to Community and Collaboration

In September 2008, the University of Pennsylvania’s Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology opened a new exhibition entitled Fulfilling A Prophecy: The Past and Present of the Lenape in Pennsylvania. The exhibition tells the story of the Lenape Native American people who inhabited Pennsylvania until they were forcibly removed in the 1700’s. By the mid 18th century official reports asserted “there were no Lenape left in Pennsylvania!” In the last ten years, a small group has come forward claiming Lenape heritage telling the story of how their ancestors actually stayed in Pennsylvania by hiding and marrying into settler families that took over the land. This unique and controversial story is allegorically revealing in a Lenape Prophecy called the “Prophecy of the Fourth Crow.” GSE Films produced the short film The Prophecy for the exhibition. Originally scheduled to run for a year, the exhibition was retained and the film remains available to the public through July 2011.
